Murray Goodwin made a timely return to form as Sussex built a useful lead on the first day of their LV County Championship First Division tussle with Hampshire at Arundel.

The 36-year-old Zimbabwean has scored more than 11,000 first-class runs in nine seasons with the county, including 39 hundreds, but came into this game with just 186 runs in 11 Championship innings this season and a top score of 22.
